Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Stem Cell Therapy

WHAT IS REGENERATIVE ORTHOPAEDIC TREATMENT?

From traumatic injuries to sports activities to repetitive day-to-day life duties, we put our bodies through a lot of wear and tear. The joints, tendons, and cartilage in the major joints of our extremities absorb the bulk of this stress, and unfortunately, these tissues have limited ability to heal on their own. Several conditions can cause pain, such as traumatic injury, repetitive overuse, or degenerative arthritis.

Regenerative Orthopaedic treatments are a non-surgical, natural treatment option using the healing power of your own cells regenerative and reparative potential to accelerate healing, repair damaged tissues, improve range of motion, and kill pain.

WHAT IS Regenerative orthopedic Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC)?

Regenerative orthopaedic Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) injections use stem cells, growth factors, and other signaling compounds to jump-start and accelerate your body’s natural healing systems.

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) treatments harness the healing power of your own body to overcome musculoskeletal injury, pain, or osteoarthritis. The process involves a harvest or aspiration of bone marrow, a centrifugation process to separate out your stem cells, and re-injection of your bone marrow concentrate (BMAC) under ultrasound guidance, fluoroscopic radiography, or needle arthroscopy.

BMAC contains a high concentration of stem cells, growth factors, proteins, and othersignaling compounds. Bone marrow is a rich source of stem cells, which can replicate into cartilage cells, skeletal muscle, and bone cells. The stem cell are able to promote growth and healing of the target tissue using localized cellular environment factors that direct the appropriate cell to differentiate and promote.  When introduced into a damaged area, these unique compounds act by promoting tissue healing and signaling other molecules to recruit even more stem cells and healing compounds to the area, facilitating repair of the damaged tissues.

BMAC is prepared from a bone marrow aspiration spun at a very high rate of speed to concentrate the stem cells and growth factors. We use the Emcyte PureBMC® processing system to ensure the highest concentration of stem cells and growth factors to maximize the healing power of your BMAC.

WHY CHOOSE DR. WILKERSON?

We take a different approach to musculoskeletal pain and injury at Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Excellence of Miami.

Dr. Wilkerson is a board certified orthropaedicsurgeon and with over two decades of experience treating patient with orthobiologics and regenerative orthopaedic  medicine treatments.

We are constantly searching for the most advanced and effective strategies in regenerative medicine. We have established safe and effective protocols utilizing BMAC to treat degenerative conditions, overuse repetitive injuries, and traumatic injuries.

STEM CELL THERAPY WITH BMAC FOR EXTREMITY INJURY BENEFITS

BMAC uses your own stem cells and growth factors to initiate the repair of the ligaments, tendons, or cartilage. These regenerative treatments may allow you to delay the need for surgery or decrease the necessity for medication.

WHAT RESULTS TO EXPECT:

  • Reduced joint pain

  • Improved range of motion

  • Better mobility

  • Less reliance on over-the-counter or prescription medication

  • Reduced inflammation

STEM CELL THERAPY WITH BMAC FOR BACK INJURY BENEFITS

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) treatment for back injury uses your stem cells and growth factors to initiate the repair of the ligaments, tendons, cartilage, or discs in the spine. These regenerative treatments may allow you to delay the need for surgery or decrease the need for medication.

WHAT RESULTS TO EXPECT:

  • Reduced joint pain

  • Improved range of motion

  • Better mobility

  • Avoidance of surgery

  • Increased strength

  • Better posture

  • Less reliance on over-the-counter or prescription medication

  • Reduced inflammation

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) treatments do not offer instant pain relief but regenerate injured or damaged tissue over time. Clinical studies and our patients report that the effect of regenerative orthopedic therapy for pain or injury lasts anywhere from two to five years. This depends on the severity of the damage. Depending on your situation, we may recommend more than one BMAC treatment or follow-up injections of PRP to prolong results.

COST & PRICING STRUCTURE

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) treatments are priced based on the amount of BMAC needed, the area(s) treated, and the type of injury treated. Sometimes a PRP injection booster is recommended following treatment. Our regenerative medicine experts will determine the specifics at your personalized consultation.

HOW THE PROCEDURE WORKS

Our goal is to provide our patients with customized care and individualized treatment strategies based on their overall health. Our regenerative treatments can improve the quality of life for our patients suffering from shoulder pain or injury.

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) procedures are same-day outpatient treatments that take place at our accredited office procedure room.

BEFORE & PREPARATION

  • You will first meet with Dr. Wilkerson or a regenerative medicine provider to assess your candidacy for the procedure.

  • We may conduct diagnostic tests (like X-rays, MRIs, or ultrasounds) to check your eligibility.

  • Bring any existing diagnostic imaging, including reports and images, to your appointment.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Aleve, Motrin, and cortisone for seven days prior to treatment.

  • Inform your provider if you are on blood thinners.

  • Have nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to the procedure except an medications with a sip of water.

  • Drink 6-8 glasses of water the day before and on the day of treatment.

  • Refrain from smoking five to seven days before and after treatment, as it can hinder your healing.

DURING THE PROCEDURE

  • First, board-certified physicians perform a bone marrow extraction from your hip under local anesthesia using ultrasound or fluoroscopy guidance.

  • We use well-established protocols and processing methods to concentrate the stem cells and growth factors by spinning the sample at high speed.

  • The BMAC is injected into your musculoskeletal injury with ultrasound, fluoroscopy, or needle arthroscopy guidance.  This will ensure that the exact location of the injury or pain is treated.

  • The procedure takes about two hours from start to finish. Follow-up visits to monitor progress occurs one month, three months, and six months following treatment.

  • For enhanced results, a PRP injection booster may be recommended.

AFTERCARE & RECOVERY

  • Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) injections are designed to produce a micro-injury in the treatment area.

  • It is common to experience stiffness, soreness, swelling, or slight pain, which decreases in intensity over time.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications or supplements for six to twelve weeks following treatment.

  • Avoid steroid medications.

  • Do not apply ice to the treatment area. Ice decreases inflammation, which stops the healing process.

  • Keep the treatment area as still as possible for 30-60 minutes post-injection.

  • You may shower 12 hours following treatment. Avoid baths, hot tubs, etc., for the first three days after treatment.

  • Do the gentle range of motion activities provided.

  • Physical therapy may be recommended.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR REGENERATIVE ORTHOPEDIC BMAC STEM CELL INJECTION?
